The virtual weekly media briefing by the Ministry of Health and
Wellness on Thursday evening targeted public transport against the
background of community transmission of COVID-19.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness said 200,000 Jamaicans use the
JUTC every day and there are 40,000 registered vehicles plus another
30,000 unregistered (or robot) vehicles. Minister of Health and
Wellness, Dr Chris Tufton said it was crucial that people wear masks,
sanitize and that there is social distancing on the vehicles. He said
each taxi takes about 80 people each day.
Managing Director of the JUTC, Paul Abrahams said there is “good
compliance” with the protocols and that passengers are not allowed
don the buses without their masks.
