Montego Bay, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Public Order Enforcement Declared in Sam Sharpe Square: In an initiative among the Police, Traffic Authority and Municipal Corporation of St James, this Christmas season will see an increased Police and Traffic Authority presence in Sam Sharpe Square, as a public order enforcement has been declared for the area.

The aim of this initiative is to combat congestion caused by illegal vending, which encourages other crimes like robbery. The public order will also target the longstanding issue of extortion.

Public order offences are those activities or behaviors which are alleged to cause disruption or offence to the general public. Public order offences include carrying offensive weapons. During the public order, the Police has the power to search anyone suspected of concealing any offensive weapon or item.

The current public order is slated to run throughout the Christmas season and into 2018.
