Prosecution Wants More Time to Complete File for Man Who Sets 74-Y-O Woman Ablaze

Latest Jamaica News, St James: Prosecutors are requesting more time to complete the case file for Nickala Facey, the St. James man who allegedly doused a 74-year-old woman with a flammable liquid believed to be gasolene then set her ablaze.

The Lima District labourer has been charged with murder relating to the death of Evelyn Blair, who was also residing in the same community.

On Wednesday, the prosecution asked for more time saying the post mortem was not ready, as well as the ID parade statement and a CCTV footage.

Consequently, presiding judge Sandria Wong-Small set the matter for further mention on October 17 and Facey was remanded in police custody.

The incident reportedly occurred on April 25 this year about 6:30 a.m. while the elderly woman was walking along a road in the community. It is alleged that Facey attacked her and doused her with a flammable liquid before setting her ablaze.

She was rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where she was admitted with burn affecting 98% of her body. She died two days later.

He surrendered to the police on June 4 and was pointed out in an identification parade on June 8. He was charged following a question and answer session the following day.

Facey is also alleged to have broken into the woman’s house earlier and tried to rape her, but she managed to ward him off and rushed him with a machete.

Attorney-at-law Shelly-Ann Hyman represents Facey.
