The police in St Thomas have commenced an investigation surrounding the death of a farmer, who was shot, allegedly by a band of cow thieves, who were caught stealing his cows on Sunday morning, May 30.
The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Vivan Johnson, otherwise called ‘CJ’, a farmer of Hector River, in Portland.
Reports by the Golden Grove police are that about 9:00 am, on Sunday, Johnson went to his farm in Hector River, and discovered that several cows from his herd were missing.
He reportedly went in search of the animals, which he tracked to a property on the border of the neighboring parish of St Thomas.
It is alleged that the farmer caught up with the cow thieves, who shot him multiple times.
His body was later discovered by residents who summoned the police. Upon the arrival of the lawmen, the scene was processed and Johnson’s body removed to the scene, for a post mortem examination.
