Dancehall artiste Popcaan has been staying productive while under pandemic lockdown. On Thursday evening the Unruly Boss, who has a mixtape on the way, previewed an unreleased song and it looks and sounds like the scorcher will feature rising star and fellow St. Thomas native Skillibeng. Listen to a preview of the potential collab below.
Fans who tuned into Lila Iké’s Instagram Live on May 14th didn’t just get the chance to listen to the singles on her new EP, The ExPerience but also caught glimpses of a few celebs that called in as well including Grammy kid Koffee and American producer Swizz Beatz who said he was bringing Verzuz to Jamaica. Most of the other famous faces, however, all popped up on the screen from one Unruly caller.
It appeared Stylo G, Skillibeng, Dane Ray and a couple others were all under one roof with Popcaan when he called in that night. Lila shared casual commentary and laughs with them all as they also congratulated her on the new EP.
Little did anyone know that the deejays were all up to a musical project of their own. Over on Popcaan’s Instagram Story the artistes were chilling under a work-flow kind of vibe.
Skillibeng could be seen in the room dropping down some beats wearing a studio style headset and microphone. While that story slide was muted, the next that followed was bald-headed Poppy vibing to his own vocals on what appears to be an unreleased track.
He continued previewing the track on the other slides and also tagged American rapper Meek Mill while lip-syncing and getting more excited to the sound of his voice.
We know Poppy and Meek linked up a few weeks ago in early March during the onset of the Coronavirus outbreak on the island and when the borders were still open. Even though Mill was simply vacaying in Montego Bay with his girlfriend and a few other friends, maybe his meet with Poppy had something to do with this new unreleased track or Popcaan’s upcoming mixtape.
From the bits and pieces of the single that the Unruly Boss shared on his IG story, it seems the deejay is gearing up to release the mixings of a gun tune. The Lef My Gun singer can be heard singing about keeping the enemy away and “neva touch di road and nuh have it,” which sounds a lot like his piece. Skillibeng‘s vocals in one of the slides appear over the same production as Popcaan’s gun tune.
Skillibeng, who is signed to East Syde Records, has been riding high since his scammer’s anthem Brick Pan Brick made a huge splash last year. Vybz Kartel has also recently confirmed a collab with the young artiste which will appear on his Of Dons & Divas album, slated for release in June.
