Spanish Town, St. Catherine (McN) – Police report that the 27-year-old policeman shot accidentally by female police has died from his gunshot injuries.
The deceased is identified as 27-year-old district constable Durant Smith, who worked at Spanish Town Police Station.
Police report that Smith, who was accidentally shot in his neck by a female constable last Friday, succumbed to his injuries about 9:30 on Thursday night at the Kingston Public Hospital where he was being treated.
St Catherine South Police Division report that Smith was shot during an incident at the Aviary Housing Scheme in Old Harbour, St Catherine.
The female police officer apparently went to aid of Smith to ward off an attacker during the operation at he Aviary Housing Scheme, when shots she fired accidentally hit Smith.
Police say the woman constable responsible for the shooting death has been severely traumatised since the incident and is now hospitalised receiving treatment.
The death of Smith is under investigation by the JCF and the Independent Commission of Investigations.
