Police Uncovers Phone Stealing Ring

Swift action by the St. Andrew South Proactive Investigations Unit (PIU) resulted in the recovery of not only a reported stolen cellular phone, but also 200 more.

A report of a stolen cell phone to the police in St. Catherine led to the discovery that took place on Tuesday, October 4.

The police used tracking technology, which led them to a residence in St. Andrew’s Tavares Gardens between 2:00 and 4:30 p.m. During a snap raid of an apartment, the following items were seized:

  • 200 cellular phones to include iPhones
  • Nine Laptops
  • Eleven Tablets
  • Several bank cards
  • Lead sheets
  • Six flat screen televisions

The owner of one of the mobile phones has since identified it as the device that was stolen from him in the Cross Roads region in August of this year.

One suspect has been arrested thus far. He will be questioned with the aim of bringing charges against him. The investigation into the ring continues as detectives attempt to locate other participants.
