Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: Detectives attached to various police stations throughout the parish of Westmoreland, say they are now lending support to the joint military forces in every way they can because fifty-seven (57) murders in the parish since the start of the year is way too much.
One police source stated that the Morgan’s Bridge, Savanna-la-mar and Negril stations have accounted for almost all the murders recorded in the parish since the start of the year. He also stated that the three policing areas are greatly affected by gang-related warfare.
The Morgan’s Bridge station in Grange Hill has so far accounted for the largest mass murder to have taken place across the island since the start of the year where seven people were killed in Grange Hill last week.
Savanna-la-mar has recorded the most single gang-related murders in any township. Since last Thursday, May 4, the joint military forces have swept through a number of these troubled communities and have since managed to seized a number of illegal weapons, a vast amount of assorted rounds and arrested a number of wanted men.
Since the seven days that the military presence has been posted across the parish, the Detectives stated that there has only been one reported major case and that is the one in which the gunman was overpowered by the female in Frome.
This period they say is the longest the parish has been without a major incident.
Westmoreland is now the leading single parish in murders across the island.
