Jamaica Crime News, St Catherine: Our news team has been informed that Detective Constable Shawn Pennington, the police officer who was recently freed of murder charges, has now been re-charged with the said offense by the Bureau of Special Investigation.
Detective Constable Pennington was charged earlier this year by the Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) for the murder of Rushawn Oliver in St Catherine.
Immediately afterwards, the Supreme Court ruled that the Independent Commission of Investigation did not have the power of arrest, and on May 8th the charges against him was dismissed.
The Independent Commission of Investigation prepared another file and brought it to the attention of the Director of Public Prosecution who ruled in favor of the prosecution team and brought the case back to life .
It is reported that earlier this year the deceased man Rushawn Oliver was walking along a section of the Point main road in St Catherine when he was shot multiple times.
The police were summoned and upon arrival, Oliver was being transported to hospital when he allegedly named Constable Pennington as the person who shot him.
On Wednesday afternoon the accused cop was arrested by the Bureau of Special Investigations.
