Police Corporal, JDF Soldier Injured During Shootout with Gunman in Spanish Town

Jamaica Crime News, St Catherine: A police Corporal and a Jamaica Defence Force soldier, were shot and injured during a shootout with members of the security forces in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Sunday morning, March 24.

Reports by the Spanish Town Police are that shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, a team of officers responded to a report that a man was seen armed with a handgun inside a store, along Willodene, Old Harbor Road, in Spanish Town.

The police responded and upon their arrival, they came under heavy gunfire from the armed man. The fire was returned and during the exchange of gunfire, the police officer was shot and injured.

The officers were later assisted by a team attached to the Jamaica Defence force, and as the exchange of gunfire continued, one of the soldiers received a gunshot wound to his arm.

The police stated that two men were later taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
