Police Constable Shot and Injured by Gunmen in St James

Montego Bay Latest Crime [ Mckoy’s News ] A Police Constable who is attached to the Area One police Division in St James is battling for life at a hospital following an incident where he was shot and seriously injured by gunmen, during a minor motor vehicle accident in the parish on Sunday morning, September 22.

The wounded cop who has been identified as Constable Kashene Peterkin has so far undergone surgery and has been placed in intensive care.

Reports by the Freeport police are that about 2:55 a.m., on Sunday morning, Constable Peterkin was driving towards his home, in his private motor car.

On reaching a section of the Porto Bello main road, his vehicle got involved in a minor accident with another vehicle.

The officer stepped from his vehicle to address the situation and he was immediately fired upon by armed men, who opened fire hitting him multiple times in his upper body.

Constable Peterkin managed to return the fire, and also managed to escape the scene, where he was assisted to hospital.

The scene was visited by other officers who are presently carrying out investigations into the shooting.
