Police Among 25 Gang Members Arrested in Gang Sweep

St. Catherine, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News)Police Among 25 Gang Members Arrested: Assistant Commissioner of Police, Fitz Bailey, state that a police corporal is among 25 gang members now in police custody, in connection with the St. Catherine-based Uchence Wilson gang.

Police say the Uchence Wilson has wreaked havoc across the country, but remained under the radar because of its extreme organisation, preparation and planning of crime. According to ACP Bailey, the gang has been on the police radar since May of 2017. The Uchence Wilson gang is implicated in murders, shootings, robberies, and cases of rape in St. Catherine, St. Ann, St. Andrew, Manchester, Trelawny, St. Mary and Clarendon.

Gang leader, 27-year-old Uchence Wilson, otherwise called ‘Terrence’, and 24 other gang members, including a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and three women, were arrested during raids in recent weeks.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Fitz Bailey said, so far, the police have identified at least 40 members of the gang.

According to ACP Bailey, it is estimated that the Uchence gang has stolen cars, licensed firearms, household appliances and other goods valued at more than J$400 million.

Bailey said 17 motor vehicles and 15 licensed firearms were recovered during the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) operations.
