Latest Jamaica News, Kingston: Chairman of the Police Officer’s Association, Superintendent Wayne Cameron, along with other members of the executive met with the leadership of the Kingston Western Division and the Denham Town Zone of Special Operation (ZOSO) on Wednesday, July 24.

The gazetted officers in both locations unanimously underscored the fact that it was the first time that the executive of the POA had met with them in that way, to hear their concerns.

I can’t remember the executive of the POA visiting a division like this. Commendations to the team,” said Deputy Superintendent Winston Hunt, crime officer for the Kingston Western division.

In the meeting with officer corps of the Kingston Western Division, Commanding Officer Superintendent Howard Chambers expressed several concerns, highlighting issues affecting the overall manpower of the Division, including ongoing issues that are impacting on the health of Police officers working in the division.

Similar issues were identified by the officers working in the Denham Town ZOSO, where the co-existence of a state of public emergency and enhanced security measures together with a zone of special operation in the Kingston Western Division has created unique concerns.

Anything that affects the health of our officers, their working conditions are matters for immediate attention and we pledge to them our support…and we make the commitment that we will be taking the matters forward to the Commissioner of Police,” said Superintendent Cameron.

The meeting was the first in a series of planned meetings with gazetted officers in six Divisions in which working conditions have been shown to negatively impact officer’s health and well-being.
