PNP Names Head Of Review Team

The People’s National Party (PNP) has named an election evaluation committee, to be headed by Dr Canute Thompson, Senior Lecturer in Educational Policy, Planning and Leadership and Head of the Caribbean Centre for Educational Planning, the University of the West Indies.

A release from the PNP Monday evening said the Evaluation Committee is to engage in a dispassionate assessment of the Party’s campaign, the Party’s image and appeal and the public’s perception of the organisation among other things. The Committee will also recommend actions to address and correct the identified deficiencies and failings as well as assist the Party in the development and implementation of its reform and renewal agenda.

Members of the committee will be drawn from the private sector, academia and the educational sector along with representatives of the Party’s arms and affiliates.

The size of the committee and the date by which it should report were not stated by the Party.

Meantime, the Party said efforts have commenced to determine if a consensus can be reached regarding the position of leader. If this is not achieved, the matter will be brought to the next National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for September 27th. The NEC will set the date for a special delegates conference for the election of a leader.

Dr Peter Phillips has already sent his letter of resignation to the party’s executive.
