PNP Hosting Anti-Crime Forum in Montego Bay this Thursday

Kingston, Jamaica (McN) — Jamaica’s Opposition Party, the “People’s National Party (PNP),” on Tuesday announced in a press release, it will be hosting a forum in Montego Bay against violence, entitled “Stronger together – Break the silence, break the violence”.

The forum which is scheduled to take place Thursday February 23 at 6:00 pm, at the Montego Bay Community College, will include speakers such as Peter Bunting – the Opposition Party spokesman on national security; Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce; Jamaica Constabulary Force; and the Montego Bay Minister’s Fraternal.

General Secretary of the PNP Julian Robinson said in the news release that the PNP Party intend to make concrete recommendations on how it believe the issue of crime and violence can be tackled.

“While a number of the plans shared by the Government are commendable, we are concerned that the current budgetary allocation to national security is inadequate and some of the proposals such as ‘preventative detention’ are fraught with the risk of abuse and don’t go to the heart of the crime problem.” highlighted Robinson.

In the press release, the PNP states, they will  host similar forums in other parishes across the country, as well as other forums which will allow residents to share their ideas and recommendations for solving the problems facing the country.
