PM Breaks Ground for 754 Housing Solutions at Rhyne Park Estate

Jamaica News: Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, on Friday (Aug. 9), broke ground for the construction of 754 housing solutions at Rhyne Park Estate in Rose Hall, St. James.

The $8.4 billion project is being undertaken by the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) under a joint venture partnership with the China-based Henan Fifth Construction Group Company Limited over a three-year period.

The 96-acre development is intended to respond to the housing needs of low to middle-income earners in St. James, as well as persons employed to the attractions and accommodations sector.

It will include one- and two-bedroom apartments; two-bedroom single family homes; and two- and three-bedroom townhouses.

In his address, the Prime Minister said the Government is committed to providing affordable housing solutions for Jamaicans.

“So, we are not just talking about it. We are building the houses, we providing the financing and we are reducing the transaction costs to allow you to own your own home. Owning your own home in Jamaica has never been easier,” he noted.

He said that the technology to be employed in undertaking the development will ensure durability of the units, and will take into account the terrain and climate, as well as allow for expansion.

Meanwhile, General Manager of Henan Fifth Construction Group Company Limited, Baoguo Chen, said that more than 70 per cent of Jamaican labour will be used to undertake the development.

He said that the project will “promote job creation and the development of the Jamaican construction industry.”

Rhyne Park Estate will provide 100 one-bedroom apartments at a cost of $7.9 million each and 60 two bedrooms for $12.3 million; 426 two-bedroom, one-bathroom single family homes for $12.4 million; 122 two-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom townhouses for $14.5 million; and 46 three-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom townhouses for $18.5 million.

Included are residential amenities and infrastructure such as roads, water supply system, drainage and central sewerage system.
