Pentecostal Pastor Gets 20 Years in Prison – Rape of 13-Year-Old

Kingston, Jamaica (McN) – Pentecostal Pastor Reverend Paul Hanniford was sentenced today to 20 years in prison for sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old-girl.

Home Circuit Court Judge, Justice Lorna Shelly Williams on Friday morning sentenced the Pentecostal Pastor of City Mission Church to 20 years in prison.

Pastor Paul Hanniford was convicted for having sex with a minor by a seven-member jury on January 24.

The victim who is now 15-year-old testified that on March 12, 2015, she and her five-year-old brother went to choir rehearsal at their church. After the practice they asked Pastor Hanniford to take them for a drive out in his van. He then took her and her brother to his house in Kingston.

Prosecution reports state that the pastor took the children inside his home and gave the boy some cornflakes to eat. The sister asked to use the bathroom, and while she was in the bathroom the City Mission Church pastor came in.

The report went on to state: “The complainant was pushed by the pastor outside the bathroom onto a bed that was inside a nearby bedroom and sexually assaulted her,” according to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).

Reports in the testimonies is that the 5-year-old boy, hearing his sister cry “help help” climbed on a chair and peeped through a hoe in the door. He observed Hanniford raping his sister.

The ODPP gave evidence to the court that the 13-year-old girl managed to push the pastor off her and ran outside of the bedroom to where her brother was. After she arrived to where her brother was, reportedly the pastor gave her some cornflakes to eat too. Pastor Hanniford then warned her that what took place was “their secret” and should not tell anyone.
