Elections Director Orrette Fisher Seeking Injunction To Prevent Removal From Office
(McKoy’s News) – Orrette Fisher Seeking Injunction To Prevent Removal From Office: Orrette Fisher, Director of Elections has taken legal action to block the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (EOJ) from removing him from his post. His one-year appointment expires today and it is alleged that the post is to be advertised on the expiration of his appointment.
Mr. Fisher states that his being appointed for one year is illegal as the law clearly states that the appointment must be for seven years. He is represented by Attorney-at-Law, Hugh Wildman and has brought an action to the Supreme Court against the Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen and the EOJ.
The Director of Elections is seeking an injunction to bar the Commission from removing him from the post.
The matter came before the Supreme Court yesterday and Justice Carolyn Tai who adjourned it until today, directed that the respondents be served.
