Hanover, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Orchard Sports Complex: $64 Million Sports Complex and Community Centre for Hopewell.
History was created in the community of Hopewell, Hanover, on Thursday morning, when the community was the scene of the groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of the $64 Million dollar multi-purpose Community Centre and Sports Complex. The ceremony was held at the Orchard Complex, at about 11:00 am on Thursday, November 9, with a combined team from the Hanover Charities, Tryall Resorts Fund, Junior Chamber International, and The Lennox Lewis League of Champions.
Lennox Lewis, the undisputed former Heavy Weight Champion of the World, told our news team that he was very pleased to be a part of this project. According to Lewis, he has always seen the need to play a vital role in the lives of youngsters, and this facility and his Lennox Lewis League of Champions Boxing Gym, will no doubt be the mechanism that he will be using to uplift young lives and minds.
In reply President of the Junior Chamber International, Shane Reid expressed that his group of young volunteers will manage the Homework Centre, as well as the facility to the best of their abilities.
The construction of the Orchard Sports Complex and Community Centre is one of the largest projects to be undertaken in the parish by charity organizations, with a value of over Jamaican $64 million.
As one of the main drivers offering ongoing support, chairman of Hanover Charities, Katrin Casserly, noted that this joint project is most important, in that it shows commitment to our children and developing youth, who need the support in order to grow to their fullest potential.
The facility is being constructed by Grayson Construction and Maffessanti Builders, and is expected to be completed by November 2018.
The massive complex and Multipurpose center will consist of a football field, Community center, basketball and netball courts, Homework Centre, Computer Room and the Lennox Lewis leagues of Champions Boxing Ring and gym.
