Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: The Whithorne police in the parish of Westmoreland have reported that, they have made a breakthrough into the identity of one of two gunmen who was shot and killed by the police, after he reportedly challenged them in a shootout in the area on Wednesday morning, May 23, 2018.
The dead gunman has been identified as Jermaine Jones, 24-year-old unemployed of Logwood district also in Withorne, Westmoreland.
Reports by the police are that about 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a team of officers were on Patrol in the area of Withorne known as Logwood, when they saw Jones and another man acting in a suspicious manner.
The police further reported that upon seeing the lawmen approaching, Jones and his crony brandished handguns and opened fire at the police.
The fire was returned and during the exchange, Jones was shot while the other gunman made his escape in the area on foot.
The police seized a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with several live rounds from the wounded gunman.
Jones was later transported to the Savanna-la-mar hospital where he was pronounced dead.
