8-Year-Old Girl Battling For Life in Hospital After Norwood Double Murder

St James Jamaica(Mckoy’s News) – Norwood Double Murder: two men were shot and killed by gunmen in Norwood, St James on Thursday (September 28, 2017) morning. An eight-year-old primary school student, who is the daughter of one of the victims and another man was shot and injured during the attack.

Dead are 36-year-old Sanjay Beckford of Providence Heights in Flankers and 32-year-old Sheldon Bailey, a plumber of Paradise, Norwood.  Beckford’s 8-year-old daughter who attends the Albion Primary and Junior High School was also shot along with another man who is said to be in his twenties.

Reports by the Montego Hills police are that, shortly after 7:30 a.m., Beckford was taking his daughter to school with his 2-year-old son in his arms. He then decided to walk through a section of the area known as Hugar Lane. On reaching a section of the roadway, a motor vehicle drove up and four men armed with high powered weapons jumped out and started firing wildly at persons who were standing along the roadway.

Norwood Double Murder: Several persons scampered in different directions. Beckford and his daughter were both shot several times to their upper bodies along with Bailey and the other man. The gunmen then made their escape in a waiting motor car. The police were called and on arrival, all four wounded victims were transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where Bailey and Beckford were pronounced dead and the 8-year-old girl and the young man admitted in critical condition.

The police in the meanwhile have reported that this latest shooting is believed to have stemmed from an ongoing gang warfare between men from Hugar Lane and Church Lane.
