Jamaica News: The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information has received isolated reports of cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease in the island. However, contact with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, which has been monitoring this and other health issues indicate that there is no general outbreak of the disease. Surveillance data indicate that there is no unusual number of cases in any area in the island.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information is urging schools administrators to take every precaution to prevent the spread of HFMD and monitor their students for symptoms. The Ministry will continue, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, to provide tips to prevent and manage the spread of the disease.
