Jamaica Sports News, Kingston: The new look Kingston Wharves under-15 Cricket Competition which was re-vamped last year, was launched on Thursday in the Club Lounge, George Headley Stand at Sabina Park in Kingston.
This is the 29th staging of the competition and it features 20 teams, up from 14 last year.
Six long-standing and accomplished club teams have been added to increase the number of youngsters who will be kept playing the game beyond the school level. The teams are Kingston Cricket Club, Melbourne Cricket Club, Lucas Cricket Club, Boys Town, St. Catherine CC and Kensington Cricket Club.
The competition will be played in four zones of five teams each. The preliminary round will see the teams playing each team once in a round-robin format. The zone winners will play the semifinal and the winners play the final, which is scheduled for August 24.
The winning team will receive bursaries, as well as, those cricketers who deliver high-quality performances during the competition, such as centuries, five-wicket hauls etc.
Kingston Wharves will also sponsor the island’s under-15 team to the regional competition. Those players are scheduled to tour the Kingston Wharves’ port on Friday.
Manchester will be defending the title they won last year by defeating Kensington.
