New Charges Laid Against Six In $104m Fraud Case

Jamaica News: New charges have been laid against six St. James resident who have been charged in connection with the theft of $104 million from a Montego Bay business establishment.

The six made a brief appearance before presiding judge Sandria Wong-Small at the St. James Parish Court on Wednesday, April 24.

Thirty-eighty-year-old Neril Gordon of Bogue Village, who was initially facing charges of conspiracy and larceny as a servant, has been slapped with additional charges of breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act and breaches of the Cyber Crime Act.

An additional charge of breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act has now been added to the conspiracy charge against Greg Jackson, Ejoven Waite, Cordel Murtha, Karimah Murtha and Maxine Walker.

The matter was subsequently set for trial on June 3 and the quintoplet had their bails extended to that date.

Gordon, who was employed to Gateway Solutions, was reportedly responsible for the payroll. During an internal audit on December 1, 2016, it was discovered that a total of $104 million have been paid out to persons not employed to the company over a three-year period.

The inconsistencies pointed to her as she was the only person who had the undertaking of preparing the payroll. She was subsequently arrested and charged.

The other five accused were charged after it came to light that they were among the persons who caused monies to be deposited to their accounts, knowing that they were not employed to the company.
