National Security Minister, Hon. Robert Montague Speaks to Family Members of Detainees

St James, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – National Security Minister: The Minister of National Security Hon. Robert Montague on Sunday, January 4th  toured sections of the Freeport Police Station in Montego Bay,  St James and met with family members of a number of the detainees.

The family members informed the minister that they have been treated with respect by the Security forces, however,  they are very concern with the long length of time that it takes to process an individual.

A number of the family members,  mostly women told Minister Montague that most of who were detained on Saturday are hard working men and several of them will lose their jobs if they don’t turn up for work on Monday.

After speaking to the concern family members,  the security minister then ventured inside the station and carried out his own investigation of the prisoners well being,  while touring the cell blocks and meeting with the cell guards and also the prisoners.

The minister did an investigation in regards to the number of prisoners who were being detained in the cells and also about their living conditions.He also asked for the processing to be sped up so that persons who are employed can go back to work by Monday morning.

The Minister and his team then met with stakeholders in  St  James later on Sunday evening and he informed them that he was very pleased with the reaction that he got from relatives of persons being detained at the Freeport lockup and that he must commend the security forces for the way in which they have approach residents in the State of Emergency.
