Jamaica News: Fewer Jamaicans have been been murdered thus far in 2018 when compared to the same period in 2017.
As at August 11, 797 Jamaicans were murdered. At the same stage in 2018, 958 had been murdered.
The drop represents a 17% decline in homicides.
While no official comment has been given by the police high command about the numbers, it is likely that the State of Emergencies and Zones of Operation in St Catherine North and Montego Bay, St James are to account for the drop, with Montego Bay in particular recording 60 murders so far compared to nearly 150 at the same stage last year.
The other three major crime categories namely shootings, rape and aggravated assault also decreased.
