Jamaica News: Fewer Jamaicans have been murdered thus far in 2018 when compared to 2017.
The latest crime figures reported by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, show that as at August 18, eight hundred nineteen persons have been murdered in Jamaica. That’s 175 fewer murders compared to the 994 at the same stage in 2017.
All other categories of crime are down with the exception of larceny.
However more children are being killed, 20 have been cut down by criminals thus far compared to 17 at the same stage last year.
The gun continues to be the weapon of choice for killers with 657 such homicides.
Of concern to some observers also is that fatal shootings at the hands of the security forces is on track to match that of 2017. Thus far in 2018 ninety three persons have been killed by the police and 1 by the JDF. At August 18, 2017 JCF personnel had killed 95 individuals while the JDF had killed 1.
