A fire of unknown origin estimated in the regions of more than $50 million completely destroyed sections of Heart Street in Montego Bay, St James, on Thursday morning, February 7.
The fire which gutted through the John John Auto Parts, Harvey’s Meat, and two other small businesses along with a dwelling house, have dealt a massive blow in the business community.
Reports by the police are that in the wee hours of Thursday morning residents living along Heart Street noticed fire coming from one of the premises.
The police and the Fire Department were alerted and upon arrival, the firemen battled the blaze for several hours.
When they managed to get the fire under control it had already gutted through the John John Auto Parts store room, destroying millions of dollars in cars parts and car accessories, along with Harvey’s meat shop, and a tenement dwelling which was occupied by a family of six.
The origin of the fire is not yet known.
