Latest Jamaica News, Montego Bay: The St James Police say they are still in search of a man who managed to elude the police following a high-speed chase which started at the Sangster’s International Airport in Montego Bay, on Sunday, and ended along Queen’s Drive with the seizure of an unusual 9mm firearm, and a motor vehicle.
Reports are that about 11:20 a.m., a team of officers were conducting Vehicular Check Point Operation in the vicinity of the Sangster’s International Airport, when they signaled the driver of a 2004 Nissan Sunny motor car to stop.
The driver disobeyed and sped off in the directions of Queen’s Drive (“Top Road”). The police gave chase and following a daring chase in traffic, the fleeing motorist got impeded by a line of vehicles along Queen’s Drive.
At that point, he jumped from the car and made his escape on foot in the directions of Leaders Avenue. During a search of the car, the lawmen spotted a black knapsack on the rear seat, which was found to contain an unusual 9mm pistol, which make, serial number nor model is not known.
The firearm and the motor vehicle were seized and taken to the Montego Bay Freeport police station.
Since the start of the year, a total of 53-illegal firearms and 4249 assorted rounds of ammunition, have been seized in St James.
