Montego Bay, St James (McN) – The Barnett Street and Freeport police in Montego Bay, St. James say they are sending a strong warning to members of the public to cease from using the Dump Up Beach area along the Howard Cooke Boulevard as a “private bathing” area especially at nights.
Investigators pointed out that the Dump Up Beach is mainly used by couples who are considered as “illegal couples” and who are caught up in questionable relationships.
These couples are often hiding from their other half’s and find the Dump Up Beach area as a perfect getaway dating spot.
These illegal couples are now been targeted by armed robbers. Persons who are assaulted in that area are been asked to immediately Contact the Freeport CIB Department at 953-6191 or the St James Police 952-4997.
The most recent incident occurred on Thursday night.
Reports are, about 9:30pm on Thursday one man armed with a handgun travelled to a section of the Dump Up beach and held a couple at gunpoint. He proceeded to robbed them before sexually assaulting the female. Her male companion managed to escape and ran unto the main road where he sought assistance from the nearby police.
A number of these such assaults are been carried out along the Dump Up Beach stretch on a frequent basis, most of them go unreported due to the nature of the couples’ relationships.
We were made to understand that these armed rapists and robbers often acts alone but always tricks their victims into believing that they are in the company of other armed men when carrying out these hideous acts.
Meanwhile, the police say they are appealing to couples and other members of the public to cease from using that specific stretch of beach after hours because, the area is not safe and persons especially women are always vulnerable to persons such as these.
