Montego Bay, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Mentally Ill Man Charged: A 26-year-old man of Rose Heights in St James was charged with murder on Tuesday afternoon by the Freeport police. The accused, who is said to have a mental problem, is alleged to have slashed a woman’s throat in Rose Heights on Saturday afternoon.
The accused, Jevaughn Smith, was charged with the murder of D’andra Taylor, otherwise called Dorian, 30-year-old female laborer of Lot 95 also in Rose Heights.
Reports by the Mount Salem police are that on Saturday afternoon, November 3, Smith reportedly went to the home of the deceased and started an argument with her.
Several residents in the community who saw what was taking place, chased him away. Smith then left, but returned some minutes later, cursing and armed with a knife and a machete.
Smith reportedly held on to Taylor and used the weapons to slash her throat. He then ran from the yard, but the police were summoned, and upon their arrival, a search of the area led to the accused man being captured.
The victim was then taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Following investigations, Smith was slapped with murder charges by a team from the Freeport CIB Department on Tuesday.
