Jamaica News: Marcus Garvey – Followers of Marcus Garvey’s teachings remembered the Pan Africanist on the occasion of his 131st birthday on Friday.
Garvey, who is also Jamaica’s first national hero, was born on August 17, 1887.
A champion for Black pride and liberation he founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association.
Local leaders laid wreathes on his grave at National Heroes Park where his body has laid since returning to Jamaica in 1964.
Among his famous quotes that were recited by many on social media is “The black skin is not a badge of shame, but rather a glorious symbol of national greatness.”- Marcus Garvey.
