Jamaica News: Authorities are being urged to invest more in programmes aimed at helping the youth cope with suicidal tendencies.
A recent survey conducted by U-Report Jamaica indicated that 53% of young people had considered suicide.
The study focused on 1000 young persons.
31% of the 1000 respondents said they have attempted suicide – that’s a worrying 1 in 3 youth.
In examining the perceptions & attitudes towards mental health, over 90% of those who responded said they believed that the mental health of young people is not taken seriously.
U-Report is a platform that has given hundreds of youth a chance to speak out on issues that matter to them and mental health is a growing concern that demand immediate attention and prioritization from the government.
