Jamaica Crime News, St James: Hugh Roach, the St. James man charged in relation to the seizure of more than two pounds of cocaine during a police raid in 2013, will return to court on June 14 for the continuation of his trial.

The Westgate Hills, Montego Bay resident faces charges of possession of and dealing in two pounds and 3.24 ounces of cocaine.

The matter was set for continuation on Tuesday, but defence attorney Morrel Beckford who is representing the accused man, asked the judge for additional time.+

Presiding judge Sandria Wong-Small subsequently deferred proceedings until June 14 when the trial is expected to continue.

It is alleged that on March 6, 2013, at approximately 5:20 p.m., a police team was on an operation in Westgate Hills when members of the team saw Roach and another man on the front patio of Roach’s house.

Roach allegedly attempted to hide a plastic bag under his chair, but the bag was retrieved and found to contain a rectangular package with cocaine.

The other man was freed in an earlier court appearance after his lawyer Martyn Thomas made a no-case submission and after the prosecution submitted that he had no case to answer.
