Jamaica News, Manchester: The police in the parish of Manchester say they are presently still carrying out investigations surrounding an incident where a man is believed to have committed suicide on Wednesday morning of June 6th, after he allegedly set his own house on fire and locked himself on the inside.
The deceased has been identified as 89-year-old Basil Coley of Peart Road address in Mandeville.
Reports are that Coley was last seen alive about 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday. That same morning it is alleged that he locked himself inside his own house and set it ablaze. Residents and family members alerted the police and the Fire Department followed by which they attempted to put out the blaze themselves.
Upon the arrival of the firefighters, the fire was put out but the board-structured house and all its contents were completely destroyed.
Following a search, Coley’s charred remains were discovered beneath the burnt rubbles. The victim was later transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
