Latest Jamaica News, St James: The Mount Salem police have confirmed that a man who was taken into custody last week, after an illegal firearm and several rounds of ammunition, were found at his home in Mount Salem, St James, has been charged.

Investigators say the accused who was taken into custody on Friday, July 12, was charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, earlier this week, but his identity is still being withheld, as he may be placed before a series of identification parades.

Reports are that about 11:00 a.m. on Friday, the police responded to a report that the accused man had threatened another person from the community, with an illegal firearm.

A search was carried out at his house at 9 Main Street, in Mount Salem and during the search a Bersa Thunder nine, 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing 9 live rounds was seized.

The accused man was taken into custody in connection with the seizure.
