The St Catherine police has confirmed that the man who was fatally shot at a premises along Brunswick Avenue in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Tuesday morning, June 12, was caught stealing sheep from a pen.
He has been identified as 29-year-old Johnny Bailey, unemployed of Tawes Meadows also in Spanish Town.
Reports are that in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, the sheep farmer who is also a licensed firearm holder, was awoken from his sleep by his barking dogs.
He got out of bed and cautiously went on the outside of the house, when he saw two thieves removing sheep from a pen in the yard.
The thieves turned and saw the home owner, followed by which they opened fire at him.
He returned the fire, hitting one of the men, who both ran in separate directions.
The police were summoned and following a search of the surrounding, they discovered Bailey’s body, in close proximity to the premises with gunshot wounds.
He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
