St James, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Man Compensates Complainant, Freed: A St. James man was on Wednesday freed of assault and malicious destruction charges when he appeared in the St. James Parish Court.
Romaine Williams was charged after he allegedly went to a man’s office and physically assaulted him and damaged the office door.
The incident reportedly stemmed from what has been described as ‘bad blood’ between both men as a result of Williams owing the complainant a sum of money.
Court records state that on July 4, 2017, Williams visited the complainant’s office and forced the door open before launching an attack on the complainant, damaging the door in the process. The damage incurred amounted to $42,000, the court was told.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, defence attorney Oneil Brown indicated to the court that the complainant had made a decision to throw out the matter once he received some compensation.
A sum of $42,000 was subsequently paid over to the complainant in court and based on that, the prosecution offered no further evidence.
