Jamaica Crime News, Trelawny: The Trelawny police have now confirmed that a man who was taken into custody in connection with the stabbing death of an 18-year-old student, at a wake yard in the parish of Trelawny on Sunday, August 5, has now been officially charged.
The accused has been identified as Petroy Grant and he was charged on Wednesday afternoon with the murder of Raheem Allen of Calabar district in Rio Bueno also in Trelawny.
The police say Grant will be taken to court early next week.
Reports by the Falmouth police are that about 1:25 a.m. on Sunday, Raheem was among a group of persons at a wake yard being held at a section of his community.
Allen was standing outside a shop when he got involved in an argument with Grant and a group of men.
It is reported that Grant brandished a knife which he used to stab Allen to the regions of his upper body. The wounded student ran and collapsed a short distance away.
The police were summoned and upon arrival, the wounded student was rushed to the Falmouth hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Following the incident, Grant was chased by angry residents, in fear of his life he ran straight to the police station and turned himself over.
He was arrested and subsequently charged.
