Jamaica Crime News, St Elizabeth: Detectives attached to the Santa Cruz Police department in St. Elizabeth, say they have now laid criminal charges against a man, who was arrested in connection with the seizure of an illegal firearm and several rounds of ammunition, in Santa Cruz on Friday, March 8.
The police say the accused has now been charged for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, but they are still unable to release his name as he may be placed before an identification parade.
Reports by the police are that about 2:30 p.m. on Friday, a team of officers were on patrol along sections of Santa Cruz main Street, when the accused man was seen at a restaurant.
Upon seeing the lawmen, the accused started to act in a suspicious manner and henceforth a search was carried out of a bag he was carrying.
The search resulted in the seizure of a Beretta 9-mm semi-automatic pistol, fitted with a magazine containing nine live 9-mm rounds, which was found in the bag.
