Police arrested and charged Five persons with $9.4 million ganja bust


A Westmoreland man who the police busted with 50 pounds of marijuana that were found in the trunk of a motor car he was driving, has been granted bail.

Forty-seven-year-old Kevin Gooden of Darliston, Westmoreland was offered bail in the sum of $450,000 when he appeared in the St. James Parish Court Wednesday morning, July 31.

Although the date of the incident was not disclosed, the court heard that Gooden was travelling through the State of Emergency checkpoint in a grey Toyota Corolla rent-a-car when the officer signalled him to stop.

During a search of the vehicle, the ganja was found hidden inside the trunk.

The car and the ganja were seized and Gooden was arrested and charged.

He was offered bail in the sum of $450,000 with up to three sureties following an application by his attorney Martyn Thomas.

The car was also released to the owner on a $500,000 bond.

He will be sentenced on October 17.
