Orville Purnell, 27, of Belgium Road, Buff Bay, Portland, escaped custody from the Central Police lock-up on Wednesday, December 1. He was awaiting extradition to St. Lucia.
On July 14, 2021, investigators from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested Purnell in Buff Bay, Portland. He was apprehended on a warrant for murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and escaping custody. These crimes were allegedly committed in St. Lucia in August of 2020.
Purnell was in custody in St. Lucia for the offences, according to investigators, but he escaped in October 2020 and fled to Jamaica, where he is believed to have been hiding until his capture.
Purnell is 180 centimetres (5 feet 11 inches) tall with a dark complexion and medium build. On both arms, he has multiple tattoos. He had dreadlocks at the time of his escape, but authorities believe he may have cut them.
