Montego Bay, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie commended the St James Municipal Corporation for a job well done towards the cleanup programme, following the recent flooding in Montego Bay.
According to Minister McKenzie, a programme which was slated for two weeks took the Mayor and his team 48 hours to make Montego Bay traffic flow-worthy again. This he said has shown the kind of leadership that the Local Government has now taken on in their one year anniversary.
The Minister was speaking at the press conference for the Post Clean Up Program held at the St James Municipal Corporation on Wednesday morning. Minister McKenzie also stated that following a tour of the city of Montego Bay he will now consider if further funding will be granted to pursue more work on their cleanup program.
The Minister also sent a strong warning to persons who he labeled as illegal squatters, illegal builders and persons who dispose of garbage improperly to cease from doing so. According to the Minister, next year a proactive approach will be taken by the Ministry towards these individuals.
