Jamaica News: Industry players have been told they have nothing to worry about following the entry of Starbucks into the Jamaican market.
The American coffee chain set up its first shop earlier this year and has set its sights on opening others within the next few months.
This has led to questions about whether the company will be importing all its coffee.
However Minister of Industry, Commerce and Agriculture Audley Shaw says Starbucks will actually help local producers of blue and high mountain coffee.
Mr Shaw said he’s met with Starbucks leadership and they’ve given assurance to help market Jamaica’s coffee through its hundreds of shops set up in 78 countries globally as “Jamaica has the best coffee.”
Starbucks has therefore challenged Jamaican farmers to grow more coffee in order to meet the demand.
