Jamaica Crime News, St Catherine: The  police have now indicated that the licensed firearm holder who was held with an illegal firearm, along a section of the Old Harbor road in Spanish Town, St Catherine on Sunday, February 9, is actually a former Jamaica Labor Party Councillor.

The name of the former JLP political activist is being withheld pending further investigations.

Reports by the police are that shortly after 5:00 p.m., the former Councillor was driving a Honda Aquara motor car through a joint military check point at Innswood, along Old Harbor road in Spanish Town, when he was signaled to stop.

He complied and it was discovered that he was a licensed firearm holder, but further search of the vehicle led to the seizure of an illegal handgun,  a Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

The accused man was taken into custody and will be subsequently charged.
