Jamaica Crime News, Kingston: A man who attempted to assist his female neighbor whose house was set on fire by armed men, on Tuesday, December 25,  was shot and killed by the arsonists.

The deceased has been identified as 43-year-old Kevon Smith,  otherwise called “David” laborer of Lenwood Path, in Warehouse, St. Catherine.

Reports by the Olympic Gardens Police are that about 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday,  Smith was inside his house when he heard shouts coming from his neighbor’s house.

He looked outside and discovered that her house was on fire and ran on the outside to assist her.

While in the process of rendering assistance, he was ambushed by armed men who opened fire, hitting him multiple times to his upper body.

The gunmen then set fire to two other houses in the community, before making their escape in the area.

The police were summoned and two units attached to the Half Way Tree Fire Department.  The firemen carried out cooling down operations in the area, and the police removed Smith’s body from the scene. He was pronounced dead at hospital.
