St James, Jamaica (Westmoreland) – Joint Military Kills Ratty Gang Member: A Joint military operation carried out on the Border of St Elizabeth and Westmoreland on Monday evening resulted in one gunman being shot and killed, another captured and two illegal firearms seized.

Reports by the police are that Intelligence carried out in the parish of St James revealed that Ryan Peterkin otherwise called Ratty and members of his notorious gang, “Ratty Gang”, who operates out of Mother Lane in Cambridge, St James were fleeing the parish to sections of the parishes of St Elizabeth and Westmoreland.

According to the police, several of the men were tracked to Konami District which lies on the border of Westmoreland and St Elizabeth.

An operation was carried out in the area and a group of gunmen engaged the joint military team in a shootout.

Joint Military Kills Ratty Gang Member: during the shootout, one of the gunmen was shot and killed and another shot and injured. The injured man was taken into custody.

Two illegal firearms and several rounds of ammunition were also reported to have been seized from the men.

The Ratty Gang have been creating mayhem and terror in Cambridge, St James over the past year and they are said to be behind over fifteen murders which have taken place in the Cambridge area.

Since the State of Emergency has been imposed on the parish of St James, the security forces have learnt that Peterkin and his gang are now disguising themselves as market vendors and are fleeing to sections of Westmoreland and St Elizabeth.

The security forces say they are still carrying out searches on the area in search of Peterkin and other members of his gang.  Also, several security checkpoints have been set up along various sections of the area.
