JGA Inter-School Golf Competition Tees off Today

The JGA Inter School Golf Competition tee off today at the Constant Golf Club beginning at 3:30 this afternoon.  This is the third staging of the competition which currently features defending champion Campion College along with Jamaica College, St. Andrew High School and Hillel Academy.

For the first time a prep school section has been introduced with Hillel Academy and Reach Academy as the two competing schools.

The golfers will play nine holes in a shotgun start.  The competition will be played based on a two-person scramble.  Schools will be allowed to have an unlimited number of teams but only the best scramble team score will be used for points in the competition.

There will be five matches in the competition.  The top two schools will play-off to determine an overall winner.  The other two schools will play for third and fourth place positions.

The points during competition will be four for a win, three for second place and two points for third place while all schools will get one point for participating.

Alison Reid, the chairman of junior golf in Jamaica had high praises for the competition which has helped to identify and hone the golf skills of several junior players.  She indicated that Jamaica is already reaping some benefits from the competition which has extended the number of playing days of the junior golfers and this can only help to improve their game.

Jamaica looks forward to winning its first Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship after copping second place in 2018 and 2019.
