Jamaica Crime News: A Jamaica Defence Force soldier who was shot and injured by a group of gunmen, while at his business place in Mandeville on Saturday afternoon, later succumbed to his injuries at hospital.
He has been identified as Private Gabe Reid, who also resided in the parish.
Reports by the Mandeville police are that on Saturday, Reid who operated a Car Mart in Mandeville, was at his business place when three men drove to the premises.
It is further reported that an argument developed between the JDF soldier and the men, and they brandished firearms.
Private Reid who is a licensed firearm holder pulled his licensed firearm and challenged the men.
A shootout developed between the soldier and the gunmen, during what time Reid ran from the premises, and sought cover behind a cluster of building.
When the shooting subsided, the police were summoned and upon their arrival, a search was carried out in the area which resulted in the discovery of the JDF Private, who was seen suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was transported to hospital, where he died whilst being treated hours later.
