Jamaica Sports News: Many time rural area high school netball champions, Holmwood Technical, got off to a winning start at the inaugural AFNA Champion of Champions High School Netball Tournament, which got underway at the Leila Robinson courts in Kingston on Sunday.
The Carline Graham Powell coached girls, defeated Christchurch Foundation out of Barbados, 25-23, after trailing 4-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Led by good performances from goal shooter Sasha Gay Forbes, 30 from 49 attempts, the Christiana based Holmwood was able to take control of the game in the second half and carve out a 16-9 advantage.
The visitors reduced the defecit by one in the third quarter, scoring 9 goals to Holmwood’s 8.
With reserve goal attack Aliah Lue scoring a perfect 4 from 4 and goal attack Shadine Bartley one from one, Holmwood completely outclassed the girls from Christchurch, in the final quarter.
They scored 11 goals while restricting their opponents to 5 and went on to win the game 35-23.
Goal shooter Chiara Chase, led the scoring for Christchurch with 11 from 20 attempts, goal attack Stephian Shepherd got 4 from 5 and goal attack Brianna Holder 2 from 8.
Excelsior high school from Kingston, easily brushed aside Anglican high school from Dominica 40-26.
They took command of the game from the opening whistle and was able to carve out quarterly leads of 8-5, 25-8, 32-18, before going on to a convincing 14-goal win.
Goal shooter Racoya Douglas 21 goals from 34 attempts, goal attack Hasana Williams 15 from 24 and goal shooter Ramona Edwards, got the goals for Excelsior.
For Anglican high school it was goal shooter Darlyne Evans Lambert 15 from 22 and goal attack Jada Nelson 11 form 27.
